I live in a beautiful part of the world, Hat Head in NSW Australia, surrounded by pristine beaches, dramatic seascapes, national parks, and green farmland. It has been my adopted home, since moving from Sydney 15 years ago, and it is this that inspires me, and provides material that informs my current art practice.
I am a painter at heart, having fallen in love with the medium at high school. I also take photographs, and have recently become a serious iphoneographer. I publish regulary on instagram, and enjoy being inspired by visual creatives the world over.
My journey as an artist has been bendy, as making art has had to be more peripheral at different stages in my life . This is because I am the mother of three boys, and I also am a mental health nurse.I currently work 3 days a week in my own nursing practice, and have only 2 days in my studio.I spend many more days there in my head.
Ainslie’s generous works demonstrates the aesthetic aspects of mark making, paint application and the push and pull of composition. Themes of flight, pattern and symbol are explored in art that is influenced in both a direct and a subliminal manner by her immediate coastal environment.
Her most recent body of work incorporates influences of Japanese textile design, contemporary aboriginal motif, and the great creator. It incorporates personal symbols within a context of compositional challenge and play.
