I love to be at the beach. It is where I rejuvenate, exercise, relax, and seek inspiration.I can be quiet, happy, and close to God. I find the pumice stone interesting-so light, chalky, beautifully shaped, and sometimes perfectly formed-swept in by the incoming tide in curvy shifting lines, and often deposited in the dunes to dry in the sun. I have collected my pumice from many favourite places over several months, and ,finding inspiration in the environmental sculpture of British artists Andy Goldsworthy and Richard Long , have brought the outside in.Scale has informed how I have chosen to celebrate this humble material. Also part of the exhibition are paintings which explore rock formation ,shape, patina, , as well as a small work , entitled A4 . Some images from the exhibition, currently on at the MV Gallery , Gladstone.
I am really looking forward to this upcoming exhibition, as I am excited to see the the work being made by my artists friends , and to discover what sort of a show we can curate together.
It is being held at the Macleay Valley Art Gallery, Gladstone, NSW , starting on Thursday April 16 ,and running through to April 26. A recently completed work in oil on canvas, which can be viewed at Wonderland Gallery in Kempsey. 120x 160cm Below, some details. |
